Piano Reconditioning may be a viable option to consider for your older piano.
Reconditioning is less expensive than rebuilding, and can often extend the useful life of your piano. Please be aware that this service is recommended for pianos that have seen moderate use, or for those pianos for which professional performance standards don’t apply.
Reconditioning typically includes the following services:
-
- Thorough cleaning inside and out – We vacuum the interior of the piano, and with compressed air, clean the action. The cabinet of the piano is cleaned with a mild solvent to remove dirt, dust, wax, and grease. We then polish the cabinet.
- Action, bridge, and string repairs – After an inspection, broken or missing action parts are replaced. Bridges are repaired with epoxy if large cracks or separations are seen, or if pins are loose. All broken or missing strings are replaced.
- Pinblock restoration – If the piano doesn’t hold tune due to a defective pinblock, a cyanoacrylate glue repair is suggested. This frequently renders the piano tunable, but cannot be considered a permanent repair. If the pinblock shows signs of delamination or severe deterioration, replacement may be the only option.
- Action regulating – Nothing improves the playability of your piano like a complete action regulation. Over years of playing, action parts wear and go out of proper adjustment. After replacing worn felts, we perform a 30+ step regulation process. This restores the original action dimensions and optimizes the mechanism. Many clients remark that their piano never felt and played better!
- Hammer filing – After years of playing, grooves form on the felt hammers creating a harsh tone. We gently file and reshape the hammers to their original shape. We follow this up with a complete voicing procedure to ensure evenness of tone. The improvement in how your piano sounds is amazing!
